Love Island UK - Season 13

Broadcast & Production Power

Powering one of the UK’s most recognisable television productions

Love Island UK requires a reliable, resilient power infrastructure capable of supporting a major television production continuously throughout an extended production period.

FTVS provided the broadcast and production power solution, supporting the energy requirements of the site while incorporating solar generation, generator power and battery storage into the overall system.

The Challenge

A production of this scale requires significant power across both broadcast and production operations, with reliability critical throughout filming.

The challenge was not simply to provide sufficient capacity, but to deliver a power solution capable of responding to changing site demand while making effective use of alternative energy sources wherever possible.

The Build phase of the production was powered solely by solar power with zero generator power used.

The FTVS Solution

FTVS supported the production with an integrated power solution combining solar generation, generators and battery energy storage.

Between 20 April and 5 August 2026, the site controller recorded 26,318 readings across 107 days, providing detailed insight into how energy was generated and managed throughout the production.

Across the reporting period, the system produced a total of 341,953 kWh of energy:

  • 123,652 kWh from solar – 36.2%
  • 218,301 kWh from generators – 63.8%

This meant that more than one-third of the recorded energy production came from solar, demonstrating how renewable generation can form a meaningful part of the power strategy for a large-scale television production.

Managing Production Demand

The system was designed to accommodate the varying energy demands of the production.

Average site load during the reporting period was 149.9 kW, while peak demand reached 290.5 kW. Solar output peaked at 250.1 kW.

Battery storage also formed part of the overall solution, with battery state of charge ranging from 0–100% and averaging 63.2% during the reporting period.

The Results

Over the 107-day reporting period, the Love Island UK power solution delivered:

341,953 kWh
Total energy produced

123,652 kWh
Solar energy produced

36.2%
Share of energy from solar

250.1 kW
Peak solar output

290.5 kW
Peak site load

The monthly data also demonstrates the scale of the operation, with energy production reaching 133,634 kWh in June and 140,808 kWh in July alone.

Supporting More Sustainable Production

The Love Island UK project demonstrates how FTVS can combine broadcast and production power expertise with renewable generation and battery technology to support demanding television environments.

By integrating solar generation alongside conventional power and battery storage, FTVS helped create a resilient power infrastructure while increasing the contribution of renewable energy to the production.

Powering production. Supporting broadcast. Reducing reliance on conventional generation.
